DON FELDER - The Vault (2025)
What is a legend? What is a legendary guitarist? Of course, the biggest names come to mind… but with Don Felder, you only need to think of “Hotel California,” the iconic Eagles track he co-wrote and co-performed. After leaving the band in 2001, he enjoyed a leisurely career, recording with the greats before returning this year with this highly accomplished album, surrounded by, among others, Steve Luthaker and Leny Castro… for an album that showcases the breadth of Don Felder’s musical tastes: vocal harmonies, Bob Seger-esque rock, hints of 38 Special, a more mellow vibe on “Hollywood Victim,” and a groove-filled melody on “I Like the Things.” We appreciate the more "metal" sound of "Heavy Metal" for the soundtrack of Metal Hurlant, the reggae-tinged "Digital World," the backing vocals of "Let Me Down Easy," before closing the album with the very relaxing instrumental "Blues Skies." Ultimately, a beautiful album, with lovely arrangements and great guitar work, reminding us that Don Felder will always be dedicated to the American dream... And for a touch of Southern flair, he is born in Gainesville, Florida... |
